After four long years, alt-rock band Wolf Alice is back with new music and a bold new era. The Mercury Prize-winning band has officially announced their fourth studio album The Clearing, set for release on August 29. Alongside the announcement comes news of their biggest tour to date.
Alongside the tour and album reveal, Wolf Alice dropped the explosive first single. The commanding new track titled “Bloom Baby Bloom,” released May 15 with an arresting visual directed by Colin Solal Cardo (Charli XCX, Robyn, Christine & The Queens).
While Wolf Alice has always been wild and free, never letting genre define them and always finding fresh and exciting ways to reinvent themselves and alternative-rock, the song powerfully announces this next chapter with clarity and fire. Powered by a swaggering bass riff and a twist on heavy rock tropes, “Bloom Baby Bloom” leans into frontwoman Ellie Rowsell’s desire to reframe the narrative.
From the charged intensity of their breakout debut My Love Is Cool to the Brit Award-winning Blue Weekend, Wolf Alice have always evolved on their own terms. Now, with The Clearing, they’re not simply reflecting a generation, they’re completely shaping the sound of its future.
“I wanted a rock song, to focus on the performance element of a rock song and sing like Axl Rose, but to be singing a song about being a woman. I’ve used the guitar as a shield in the past, playing it has perhaps been some way to reject the 'girl singer in band' trope, but I wanted to focus on my voice as a rock instrument so it’s been freeing to put the guitar down and reach a point where I don’t feel like I need to prove that I’m a musician.”
-Ellie Rowsell
